The critical objective that must be completed to succeed in this
mission is the destruction of Corvette group Geedon. As long as
this goal is completed, you will complete this mission. However
with a little more effort, you can destroy all eleven of the enemy
CRVs and gain a Top Performance...here's how:
When you enter the mission, immediately set your ELS to 0/0 and
100% throttle for maximum speed. Whenever I am flying in a B-wing,
I like to have linked lasers and ion cannons, but that is a personal
preference.
Most beginner pilots' first instinct is to go after the Imperial
CRVs launching heavy rockets by the pairs. However, I've found a
little trick that should help you get a Top Performance. Switch
to heavy rockets (single fire) and select the nearest enemy (it
should be a T/A directly in front of you, if not get into position
for a head on pass). Get a lock on him, and wait until he gets close
to you. Launch a single heavy rocket to destroy the T/A. Killing
this T/A will give you enough extra points to push you over the
50,000 point mark later.
Now, ignore the T/As and go after the mission critical CRVs. I
like to set dual fire and take out three CRVs (two heavy rockets
per). After the first CRV is destroyed, a STRKC (Triton) will proceed
into the combat area. Just ignore it and stick to the mission objectives.
Launch your remaining heavy rocket at another CRV. Hit hyperspace
for a new ship. Note: if at any time a few T/As start attacking
you, drop a few flares at them, that should throw them off your
tail for a few moments...enough to launch rockets and go to hyperspace.
In your new craft, attack any of the remaining Corvettes. Remember
to only use two rockets per CRV. Also keep in mind that one CRV
has already taken one heavy rocket hit and only needs one more to
be destroyed. Exhaust your ship's heavy rocket supply and go to
hyperspace again. In your final ship, repeat this process. By this
time your kill sheet should include eleven CRVs and a T/A. You may
want to destroy some more T/As to increase your score.
Using this strategy, I am able to consistently achieve Top Performance
ribbons. There are other strategies that will work, but I feel that
this is the most consistent.
If you are a glutton for punishment, you can destroy the STRKC
Triton by blindspotting it. If by chance you destroyed all of the
T/As and 50% of the CRVs (at least) the ISD Malignant will hyper
in. Go after it if you really have a death wish. It is carrying
four squadrons of T/Is, two squadrons of T/Bs, and a squadron and
a half of T/Fs. It will be a furious battle, but hey, if you destroy
everything, you'll get tons of bragging rights!
